OT : Other Crafts or Hobbies?

I thought it would be interesting to see what other people’s crafts and/or hobbies were (other than knitting, since we all have that in common  ). I do all sorts of crafts such as latch-hook, cross-stitch, plastic canvas, crochet, and beaded suncatchers. One of my main hobbies (besides those listed above) is training horses.

I switch over to scrapbooking in the summer. Just bought myself a desk just for scrapbooking. We’ll see how long it remains uncluttered without misc junk.

I’m also into photography. Here’s a link to my photos. I also like to read. A LOT! :roflhard: And I play on the computer.

Other than knit, I crochet, bake and make cards.

im not crafty, but ive been obsessed with art since before i can remember. im just not talented. knitting is something that doesnt require an innate talent, other than maybe spatial relations, so i can finally do soemthing pretty.

im also obsessed with music. again no talent for it, bvut i love everything from guy clark to anthony braxton to skullflower to madonna

Here’s my list.
Crochet, Sew, Bake, Cook, Ballet, Write, Read, and right now College and Scholarships Apps seem as much a hobby as anything else for all the time they take up!!!

I cut everything out crafty wise, so now I say:knit, quilt and scrapbook. If I DO take on something else, it’s a short term project that can take only one sitting or a couple days (weekend)…I also POGO <-----NOT good…rofl…

:?? Well… my kids are definitely not a hobby. Maybe they are a craft? Yeah! Parenting is my other craft!

Hobbies? I have my Harley in the kitchen and too many books to count all over the rest of the house. My budget is tapped out for any more hobbies.

When I don’t have classes that require massive amounts of reading and in the summer, I read a lot. Other than that, I’m like Jan in the playing on the computer category. I accidently spend hours playing the Sims. I used to write quite a bit, but I don’t so much anymore. Same with photography, until I either bother to get darkroom access or save up the $$$ for a digital SLR. As for other crafts? I have a box about the size of my knitting stash box full of beads and hemp and papers and charcoal pencils and pastels and Sharpies and glues and everything. I like to consider myself just “generally” crafty, since I can’t stick with one thing and I don’t do anything all that complicated. My roommate and I call that “crafternooning.”

Baking, cooking, reading, writing, singing, guitar-playing, and weight-lifting are my main other hobbies - all of which I seem to be doing much less of ever since I got addicted to knitting.

In terms of other crafts, I used to cross-stitch and I recently learned embroidery, but I don’t do either one very much. I am currently gearing up to relearn how to sew.

And pre-children, hiking and camping were major hobbies. I miss them and hope to get back out there once I feel able to manage two little boys in the woods!

Oh, and I also spend an inordinate amount of time online.

I’m really into art, though not recently. Last night I worked on a Frankenfurter drawing I’m doing. My avatar is part of a huge drawing I did last year. I also love to sew, and I crochet ocassionally.

As a kid i used to be really crafty with my mom. She was part of a TWIG group (they’d do things to raise money for charity). I used to help her with all of her projects.

But then i went to college and spent 12 years gettting three science degrees. I did NOTHING then but live, eat and breathe science and totally forgot my crafty side - completely. When i was finishing up my PhD, i was actually looking forward to FINALLY having the time to get back to being more artsy/crafty. I was planning to take pottery classes but haven’t found the time for that yet.

So, besides knitting i do cross-stitch (but not that often) and i make jewelry. My next goal is to learn how to do lampworking to make glass beads. I’d also like to get into working with silver. My best friend has his BFA in metals so i’m wating for him to teach me!

-hh

before knitting I would try any craft once but usually got bored and moved on lol but I do primitive sticheries that I use to sell locally (tea towels, pillows, wall hangings, framed stitcheries), I draw…paint prim art, make Christmas ornaments every year, use the sewing machine to make pillows, plastic canvas (i love making ribbon angels), chicken scratch, quilting, and when I go home mom is gonna show me how to do needle felting, and I can do some crochet… i’ve melted plastic spoons to make roses… love to tea dye things and see what I come out with… only two things that I really want to try and that is stained glass and throwing clay… one day I will other than that I’ve dabbled in almost everything… alot of things tire out my left eye now and it will jump like crazy… embrodery work now does this… I have never finished a cross stitch project I admire those who can… I have the cutest cat ornaments to be cs but I know A) I won’t finish them and B) my eye would go nuts then… so they are still in the pkg waiting to be done… so cute!!!

other than crafts I like to read, watch true hollywood stars (Grant, Hepburns, Cagney, Davis etc) in movies, listen to music, watch my kids dance to Rosemary and Elvis… my daughter loves old musicals its such a joy to watch her enjoy them and see that yeah she will like the classics too… and crazy enough Yankee Doodle Dandy is her favorite LOL… i also like to make crafts with my kids and cherish the little things they have made me… : ) and eat is that a hobby??? LOL

I am a voracious reader, but now I do homework rather than read fiction. Before I went back to school, I did craft stuff all the time. I sew, quilt, crochet, embroider, emboss paper, and a whole host of other little project stuff. I used to do counted cross-stitch, but I lost some of the vision in one eye, so I kept losing my place. But I don’t miss it, 'cause now I have knitting!

Is hiding yarn from one’s spouse an art, or a craft? :??

Jan ~ I  your photos!!

My other hobbies are mountain biking, hiking, cross country skiing, camping, hunting, sewing, crocheting. Every once in a while I’ll jump in a raft or kayak with my hubby, but not very often. That’s my knitting time, he boats, I wait at the take out, knitting away! :XX:
If it wasn’t for the first hobby, mountain biking, I wouldn’t be a knitter! (bad accident, lots of boring down time ~ worked out pretty well!!)
I’ve tried tons of stuff, but these are the things I find myself coming back to. The only problem is, I struggle to do them all as often as I want!

Wouldn’t it just be great if we could all stay home and do crafts all day? I wish I had more time to do crafts. I get pretty busy with school a lot of the time, but when I had my surgery a little over 3 months ago, it was awesome to be able to sit and knit all day long! Most people are amazed when they hear that I do all sorts of crafts. Some of my friends think I’m wacky like that, but oh well I have my fun with knitting! Also, I think birds are like a craft, lol seen as I spend so much time with them and cleaning their cage  not the funnest thing to do, but when you have big parrots, that’s pretty much all you do!

Craftwise, I also quilt. I learned to quilt over 2 years ago and relearned to knit about 5 months ago. LOL

Non-craftwise, I love to hike and camp. I used to mountain bike and it’s something I hope to get back into soon!

I don’t suppose I could count my cats as a hobby so I’ll say: knitting, reading, gardening, baking, looking up my fave forums on the internet, oh and eating of course. I have just started scrapbooking and as a result am taking more photos. I never used to think of myself as particularly arty or crafty but as my 7 1/2 year old daughter is I find myself indulging in crafts with her. Pretty sad though when we both sit down to make cards and hers look better than mine.

I like to crochet, quilt, read, horseback ride, play on the computer, camp, go on road trips, hang out with family, I’m sure there are more but those are right off the top of my head. I don’t do the horseback riding almost at all anymore, but if I could I would all the time. The road trips are kept to a minimum because of how expensive it is to load up the travel trailer and head out on the road and it is hard for the hubby to get time off, but I love it none-the-less.

I also like hanging out with my neighbor/good friend in the summer while our kids play, and biking with my kids.

Besides knitting. I love to crochet. I also enjoy sewing and embroidery.
Then again, my dogs pretty much are my main focus now! :roflhard: I also LOVE reading.
