I am so frustrated. I am obviously doing something wrong. Try as I might I cannot create a single avatar that meets the constraints. I don’t know what I am doing wrong, since I am usually quite good with photoshop. What is everyone’s secret? I have played with the pixels and resolution and the physical size. OY!
OT - Avatars
All I know is that it can be no greater than 80 pixels wide or 80 pixels tall…hope that helps
I use iPhoto. So I don’t know how helpful I can be, but basically I just use the export feature to export the picture, and I use the size constraints to make sure the exported picture does not exceed 80x80 pixels.
If you have a piece of software that will allow you to do that, you’re in business!
Oh, and if you use a picture that is parked on a website somewhere, I think you can avoid the 80x80 constraint. I’m not absolutely sure about that, though.
I should have known. Using the stupid PCs at school. I have iPhoto at home. I’ll use that.
Well, I was having problems with that too. I tried to load in a sm. picture I knew was smaller that 80x80. I got so flustered.
I ask Amy to help, she didn’t have any problem at all. It just loaded fine for her.
i use photoshop CS2
i crop the photo in a square 4x4 usually at 150dpi
then i change the image size to whatever it needs to be ie: 80x80 - still keeping the 150dpi
then i use “save for web” and it makes it small enough to be within the constraints, but still keeps it clear.
All I really know how to use is the Kodak program that came with my camera. I just copied the picture and saved it as a thumbnail.
In Photoshop use the “save for web” feature, then make sure to save as a GIF. JPGs tend to be too big.
 I use MS Paint
MS Paint person here as well! Just use the stretch/skew feature under the Image menu works like a charm
:roflhard: mintdee: for the last couple weeks your avatars and those big surprised eyes have totally made me smile. :roflhard:
I was finally able to upload, but I am going to try and see if I can do a more clear image. You can’t hardly see the words, which are the best part!
Edited: I totally did it thanks to all your help. The “save for the web” idea put the finishing touches on it. Thanks!
:cheering: :happydance: Good job Carmen!
Jod: Thanks! I love these pics so I had to share
Hey now there isn’t any shame with MS Paint
I use MS Paint to resize, but other than that I use Paint Shop Pro 7. I used to have adobe photoshop CS, but someone deleted it off this computer, and my sister sent the CD to a guy who lives in Texas
This post motivated me to try again. It took about 20 trys but finally got it to work. I used a picture and the Online Image Resizer that was mentioned in another post. I now have an avatar. :cheering: Thanks to everyone for their great insights to how to make this work.
That’s great! I have been using one that was something I found online because I couldn’t get mine to work.
Don’t you just
the folks at this website???
I just saw this thread and had to add an avatar pic for myself! I’m still fairly new here and hadn’t had a chance to do it yet. I hope it works right! LOL
Mary
Good job w/the avatars, everyone!
Mshelton, who is that handsome fellow in your avatar?? I love greys. (We have a Quaker … have we discussed this before, or am I having deja vu? )
