Although I suppose it’s the current version of Annie Green Springs (big in the '60s), I’m a fan of White Zinfandel. Lite, fruity. Of course, I buy it in one of those big boxes that keeps forever (well, at least a week). Not too classy, but it’s fine for me for the cocktail hour which we’ve always done.
Also, I recently had a White Merlot which is a lot lighter than the regular and has a nice taste without being too much.
And I’d second the German wines --Gewersteminer (sp?) and reisling.
what ive never liked about wine is the acid or vinegar-y taste. but recently ive tried a couple wines and was really super impressed with the claret (a blend) by rubicon estates. there are so many different tastes going on fruit - some kind of dark red fruit cherries? i dont know, but dark berry or something. and spice and i tasted licorice after i swallowed the wine and breathed out. definitely very very cool
Not sure if you can get Oregon wines in California But if you can look for an Oregon Pinot Noir. Seriously good red wine. I never cared for red wines until I moved into wine country in Oregon and discovered Pinot Noir!! I also adore Gewürztraminer - it’s fairly sweet, not too dry and quite fruity. Some of my favorite vinyards are Erath, Sokol Blosser, and Rex Hill. I can’t wait to get back to Oregon where I can get really good wines. Another wine you might try is a blush such as White Zinfandel.
