Orlando florida yarn stores?
My understanding of Florida comes from the previous owner of my LYS. She says that the tax on purchases in Florida is I believe 11 percent tax that I would bring my yarn with me rather than buy it there while visiting. I would suggest you do a Google and see what you get.
Our sales tax is only 6% :)
We have three LYS in the Orlando Area. They are all small, so if you are looking for an amazing selection, we really don’t have that. BUT, they are wonderful shops and I know the owners and other knitters would love to have you come in. They usually have a good selection of warmer weather yarns. http://knittingorlando.com/LocalYarnShops.htm This is the website of my knitting guild. There is information about Orlando shops and others in the area. The one at Cocoa Beach is nice, and lots of other fun beach shops along the same street.
Our guild meets the second Wed of the month. We would love to have you join us if you are here. (March 10, April 14)
The International Flower and Garden Festival is in full swing at EPCOT in Disney World. I was there on Sunday with my granddaughters and everything was beautiful. Lots of pretty flowers, topiaries, trees , vegetables … anything that grows. And they do it SO WELL. There are also gardening workshops and a Flower Power concert each night. Well worth the admission price. When you walk in, you can smell the flowers … ummmm. There was even a Dale of Norway Learn to Knit Kit at the gift shop in Norway. It goes through May.
We also have Leu Gardens. I have not been there in forever. I’m sure they have lots of gardening things going on! http://www.leugardens.org/
This is the perfect time to come to Central Florida ! The weather is perfect and everywhere you look something is blooming.
OK , so I went back and read your post … SO GLAD you will be “doing Disney” and will be there for the flowers. Be sure to check out the garden workshops, I think they are in the park and have a scheduled time for them.
The yarn shops are at least an 1-1/2 hours away from the Disney area. Leu Gardens probably 45 minutes … but really no comparison to EPCOT.
If you do venture to the beach Cocoa is a great choice. Good parking, good beach, good food and cute little shops … including the LYS. It is about 2 hours from the Disney area. The gulf beaches are closer … probably one hour and very nice. I think there are a couple of shops in Tampa.
We have lived here almost 20 years (from the Texas Panhandle) and I am STILL a tourist !! Let me know if you have any other questions
Sales Tax in most Florida Counties is 7%. There could be one or two that is at 8%. Hope you have a great time in Orlando. We are finally starting to get some Spring weather. :woot:
I’m moving to Cocoa area in 2 weeks. I just sent all my yarn down to FL but left a few projects out for the car ride and plane ride down.
Welcome to Florida. :sun: Hope you enjoy our sunshine.
I am printing off alot of the sites mentioned and so very grateful for the helpful tips to get around. Imagine, I had a pedicure done also for the trip. thank you again. :clink:
Give a holler when you get to Cocoa my hometown. The LYS in Cocoa Beach closed the one in Cocoa is very small but still open. There is a new store in Daytona She Sells Yarn haven’t been yet but is on the list. I am not a biker or Nascar so I won’t go near Dayton in Feb.!!! There are alpaca farms in Brevard county so if you spin whoooppppeeeeeee!!! And you will learn to knt with half your body in the pool in the summer, think small projects. have a safe trip, and to the tourists get goofy but don’t let Micky s***w you!
Most certainly will. I am currently working on a baby blanket, i’m going to use that swim up car in the pool to knit on. ha ha
