One-Row Stripes - Changing 2 Colors Back & Forth

Starting a little dress with 2 colors in one-row stripes.

Problem: When I knit row 1 in color A, purl row 2 in Color B, & get ready to knit the next row, Color A is now on the wrong side of the row.

Question: Will I have to cut my yarn after every row & weave in so many ends, or is there a better way?

There is a better way! You will need a circular needle to use for this kind of flat work. Knit one row in the first color. Slide the stitches to the other end of the circular needle. You are still working from the right side of the garment. Knit a row with the second color. Turn and purl a row with the first color. Slide the stitches to the other end and purl a row with the second color. Turn and knit next. Keep working that way, knitting two rows from the right side and purling two rows on the back side, sliding and turning as needed to have the next color at hand.

yup, that is how I would do it, too.

Only if your pattern should skip from an odd number to an even number of rows in between, you might need to change that.

But just work every row from where the end of yarn is. That would be the easiest.

How easy! I knew someone would know a better way.

Thanks so much for the quick reply, too! Trying to do some Christmas knitting for for each of 8 grandchildren, so every day counts. This is the first time I’ve come to “KnitHelp” - what a great site!
