I Know this Q. has been asked before but what kind of yarn winder do you like?
I have seen the 40$ jobber at Joann’s up to a $400 jobber at a handpainted yarn gallery~
what do you guys like/recommend?
:??
I got the one by Royal at my LYS for $39.95. I really like it!
I recently bought an umbrella swift and yarn winder from Schoolhouse Press and they work great, I’m very satisfied.
The winder produces a center-pull ball. It clamps to a table and it was $36.95 plus shipping. It’s from Japan; it’s made of white plastic and metal, so it’s very utilitarian in appearance. If there had been a more attractive one I would have chosen it, but I would never need to spend $400 for one. This one gets the job done with ease. My daughter is 8 years old and she can use it.
SWIFT:When it came to the swift they had 2 options and I went for the more expensive wooden one from Sweden. It was $60. The Japanese steel and nylon one was $37.
Good question. I was just looking online for one. My DH says that he can make me one, so I told him this was his project, that I needed one and since he does not like to shop for me, never knows what to get me, he can make me one, I hope . If not I will buy one.
Hopefully, with his wood working and mechanical skills, he can get one done. Then I can use the money I would have spent on more yarn, lol.
I bought the cheaper one from Joann (on sale for around $25) a few months ago, and I’m very happy with it! The only time I had a problem was when the tension of the yarn going through the guide was too slack and my yarn wrapped around the gear underneath; but as long as I keep an eye on the tension I end up with lovely little yarn cakes. :happydance:

here is a great swift tutorial for your dh i think i am going to make one too, except that means i have to find the tools to make it in my garage…hmmmm :verysad:
i just ordered this ball winder from joanns (should be here the 18th!) it seemed like the better of the two, and with the 40% off it was just $29.99 :happydance:
I got the Royal one from Ebay - I guess it’s the same as the above one? Anyway, I can get DH to hold the yarn while I wind it - I like it so far!
I bought my yarn winder from Joann’s. I believe it’s a Royal. I also have the yarn swift that Kaydee mentioned above. I love them both.
I’ve got the royal winder and love it makes my life so much easier! Some of my agents here at work got it for me after I wound 8 hanks of yarn by hand over a few days and my hands were blistered. I was so happy!
