I’ve read the pattern directions about knitting in a bead, I just can’t see how it ends up on the yarn. :?? THis would be so great. One time I added beads, and I put them all on the yarn before I cast on, and just kept sliding them down forever til I needed them (my own invention) THis looks like a better way, if I could do it.
PS THis is the hat that is mentioned in the Whatcha Knittin section. I REALLY WANT TO MAKE IT.
I saw this on knitty gritty one day. Put the beads on the yarn before you start knitting, and when you are ready to place a bead, you slide it up on the working yarn and knit it in on the wrong side of the piece you are knitting. This way the bead will show up on the right side. Hope this helps! 
:doh: THanks. That’s what I’ve done before, somehow Ithought that they were doing something else. I guess I’ll need beads with pretty big holes, to get yarn through them.
I’ve never done beading but I do plan on it. Some where I ran across this site that shows how to bead without threading all the beads on to the yarn…if I bead I’ll probably go this route.

When I’ve needed to string beads, I’ve used crochet thread to string them and held it along with the yarn. The “E” beads and others of similar size will fit on it, and are much easier to obtain than ones with holes large enough for yarn… usually that’s just the plastic pony beads. I’ve used a type of beading needle that looks like a needle threader without the little holder thingy with the most success, since any type of yarn or thread will work with it. Stiffening the end of the yarn/thread with fray-check also works, but it does tend to “break down” if you are stringing a large amount of beads. If you want to attach beads individually, the finer the hook you can find the better. Boye-style tips work better than the in-line style, and the REALLY fine ones can be found at places that sell tatting supplies.
I am doing the hat, complete with beads, and I actually found the teeny tiny crochet hooks at WALMART! My hat is going great, I haven’t come to the DPN section yet (i’m sorta scared for that, to do the pattern stitches like YO and SSK across double points is serious business) If any body has any advice before I start that, please fill me in.
