Octopi for Preemies

Haven’t posted in a while, but I thought this was worth posting. A friend in our Craft group (we’re called “Clarkson Stitch”) asked that we crochet up some Octopi for NICU at the hospital she goes to. I was taught to knit right handed when I was in grade school, but not to crochet. When I was pregnant for my son (he’s 40 now :open_mouth:) I wanted to crochet a blanket for him, so I taught myself to crochet as no one I knew could teach a lefty how to crochet… I crocheted a baby blanket and a scarf and put my hook down.:rofl: I had never done anything like this, but with the help of our expert crocheters to explain and walk me through the process I made 2. It was fun and they are very addictive! :smiling_face:. Just thought you’d like to see my results and the results from Clarkson Stitch…:grin:. Now that I look at the ones I did, I think one needs his eyes adjusted :rofl:

I love them. You are indeed a crocheter;

Cute and a great reason to crochet too.

It must be a pain learning left handed.
Easier in modern times, I believe videos can be played mirrored and perhaps that’s a help to access more tutorials.

One of these days I’ll learn to crochet an Afghan. Seen some really pretty ones. But… Knitting is my love…:two_hearts:

I love knitting too. I crocheted first. I’ve switched mostly to knitting. I can’t figure out how to crochet and not have it bother my wrist.

I’m with you there. I find the same thing… I am able to hold me hands/wrists much looser so the yarn flows. Not so much with crocheting…:wink:

For me it’s how crochet stitches are made. I can’t figure out how to not use my wrist so much. I even tried wearing a brace on my right wrist to make me aware of what I’m doing. It didn’t help. I still love crochet and do it sometimes but I can’t do it as much as I used to or as much as I’d like. I do keep trying to figure it out. When I’m not knitting that is.

Sometimes it can help to change the way you hold your hook. I find I use my wrist more if I hold over the top, like a knitting needle, but if I hold underneath (like a pencil), I use my fingers a lot more and my wrist less. It will feel VERY awkward at first, but might be something to try!

I started out crocheting that way and it had its own problems for me so I switched. I’ll figure it out or I won’t but for now it means less crochet, more knit. That’s not such a bad trade off.
