Non slip stuff for slippers

I know this has probably been discussed before now, cause I may be the last person on KH to make the Fiber Trends Clogs, but can I use Puffy Paint to make them non slip? If not, can you recommend some alternative?

I’d like to know the answer to that question too as I made a pair of slippers and would like them non-skid. Thanks.

I haven’t tried this yet, but I want to when I make the clogs.

ETA: that second link is an old one and it says something else on it so don’t order from there if you want that one. Do a search for non skid rug backing.

Now this might work, just don’t know if it’ll last through repeated washings. I’m gonna be a cheapskate and try the puffy paint first. Thanks! Mary

I know, I know, don’t ask for an opinion or advise and then completely ignore/disregard it but it looks like I’d need about 15 pairs of clogs to justify the $10.99…

Don’t worry, you’re not the last person to make them. I still have them planned at some point in the future.

Whew! I was beginning to wonder! LOL! I don’t particularly like the clogs but thought they’d make great gifts. They are super easy to make and great for learning the wrap & turn. Maybe if I make them in some feminine color with beads or decoration they might be more appealing… And- Congrats on the upcoming birth!

I heard somewhere (never tried it though) that if you get spray-on glue (elmer’s makes this in a can) and spray it on the bottoms then let it dry, it will act as a non slip buffer for them.

Not sure this is workable solution for your project as I’ve not done that pattern but I made fleece slippers and used the rubber mesh drawer liners (can be bought in a roll at the .99 store). Great traction and have fared wonderfully thru lots of walking (indoors and a bit outdoors to dump trash, etc) and the washer/dryer.

Okay, I found the rug backing “Fiber Lok” here: http://order.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/wg-order?unique=34e3b&catalog=bevfabriccrafts&et=47435543&basket=b%3D5C3c42bfd100c05747434e3be89d5bf42bfd1f7e274ccb2c3527752bfc5b98200%26l%3D%26s%3DMMSk.6K8WG9.ubrQ3xCJlFn3hwA-

on sale for $6.39 but the shipping is $9.50 so maybe I can find it in a local craft store for less w/o shipping. Says it can be painted on and is washable and durable…

OMG!!! I came home and felted my clogs, put them on my feet to check the size and they are incredibly comfortable!!! cloud9

So yes, I still think they are lacking in the beautiful department but WHO CARES!!! :teehee:

If you try puff paint practice on something else first, I might do tiny dots all over the sole? But for the size of dots I would want, and how much I remember the paint expands, I would literally want drops the size you could pick up with a sewing needle and stingily dab on.

I used spray on Plasti-Dip that I got from the local hardware store. It has lasted really well.

I have been using my glue gun. I write the person’s name all over the bottom of the slippers. It holds up well and help my family keep from slipping on the hard wood floors.
Make sure the glue gets well embedded in the nap of the felt.

I bought rug backing, but what a good idea with the glue gun!
