No stitch

Hi
I am knitting a sweater. It is a Lopi Design, The pattern is Riddari. I am enclosing a copy of the chart.

I I have just finished row 20. The beginning of row 21 reads,no stitch, knit 2 together, knit 1. It looks like I am supposed to wind up with only 2 stitches in grey and I don’t understand this, as if I have 4 stitches and I knit 2 together and knit one that should leave me with 3 stitches, not 2. I know i know I must be missing something very basic. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Y appreciated. Thank you.

No stitch is a place holder in the chart so that it stays square even though you have decreased a stitch. You should have 3sts in grey at the beginning of the round then start the round with a k2tog, k1 in grey. That’ll leave you with 2sts which you can see on row 22.
If you look along row 21 to the left, you should have 5sts in grey between the black sts. Once you knit 2tog there will be 4sts as shown in row 22.

Thank you for you quick response. I finally understand what to do.
Best regards,

Susan
