No Sew Toddler Cardigan (WIP)

While traveling on business, I made my customary yarn store browsing stop at a store called Three Bags Full in the NW suburbs of Chicago. The book is called Top Down For Toddlers by the Gemmell Sisters at Cabin Fever. It was the bright green " No Sew Knitting" tag on the front caught my eye. Finish a WHOLE sweater without seaming??? I’m so in!
My first project from this book is the Basic Cardigan (p.23).

Although the picture shows a solid blue, I’m using Classic Elite Provence in Japanese Lilac and Rosa Rugosa. Yarn Stats => 100% Mercerized Egyptian Cotton; Gauge 5½ sts/inch on #5 needles (Pattern Guage is 5.5 sts/in on size 6 circulars); comes in 100g/100yd skeins.

I have finished thecollar and started some of the eyelet rows for the raglan sleeve areas:

:?? A toddler cardigan in South Florida? Started in February???
I know…I know…it’s the no sew concept. I’m hooked… :XX:

Makes sense to me.
My daughter lives in Arkansas, and in the summer the stores are so cold, you have to have a sweater.

My favorite colors. Can’t wait to see it finished.

Oh, thanks for posting that link. I needed that in my favorites.
Yeah, like I need another hole in my head. :roflhard:

Looks great – pretty colors!

I’m working on my first seamless top-down sweater (for me) right now. I love the idea of no seaming! :happydance:

My favorite sweaters to knit are ones that I don’t have to sew a stitch for. I’m about to finish up a cardigan that had looooong seams. It was ok, but the sweater I’m working on now has not a single stitch to do when I’m done. Those kinds are the best!!

Ooooh, this is a book I need!!! I haven’t knitted any clothing yet, but when I do knit something for my toddler, I want it to be no-sew! Thanks for the link.

 Thank you kindly ladies! This is my first day on the forum and I’ve been sufficiently distracted by all the encouragement, tips and enviable photos already!! sigh  Life is good…Gotta knit!

I put yes because I am in the middle of a top down raglan (no seams).

How cool that you posted this today - just this afternoon I was planning to post asking if anyone had done any of the patterns in the Top Down for Toddlers book. I’ve been considering buying it from my LYS but hadn’t heard any reviews of it. I was particularly drawn to the pattern you’re doing, as well as the rolled-neck raglan and the cabled sweater.

I’ll be interested to see your FO, and to hear how you enjoyed doing it!

Stacey, I’ll be happy to give you my take on the pattern once I’m (nearly) done. Right now, my only frustration is that I haven’t knit enough of it for that “Aha!” moment when it starts to look more like a cardigan.

I don’t have more recent shots of it yet, but I can at least show you who it’s for!! My oldest DD:

Her smile would be wider than that if she knew she was making her forum debut

She’s adorable!  And I can’t imagine her smile getting any wider! :rofling:

I agree…she has a gorgeous smile! What a charmer

Beautiful little girl!!

What a cutie!!!
