Night cramps in feet and legs

Bar of soap… now that is one I hadn’t heard before. Under the sheet you say? I’ll give it a try if the other stuff doesn’t work. Thanks!

Suzeeq, I heard/read that taking calcium and magnesium together is best…the reason they are often together in a bottle I guess. Something to look into.

Tonite my foot was bothering me before I even got to bed so I took a magnesium, calcium, had a glass of soymilk and a V8. :teehee:

The reason not to take them together is that they use the same receptors in the body, and if you have a shortage of one the other could block it and you’d still be ldeficient. The reason they’re packaged together is because they do need to be in the correct ratio in your system. But there’s so much added calcium to other foods (orange juice, tums, etc) that you could have too high levels of Ca compared to Mg levels. Mg deficiency can be the basis of a lot of other problems, not just cramps.

I got leg and foot cramps nightly when I was pregnant. My midwife told me to eat more bananas, as potassium could help ease them. But, I don’t like bananas, so I just got up and walked them out. Every night.

So, if you like bananas, eat one before going to bed, hopefully it helps!!

They should be fairly ripe with brown spots, they have more potassium than greenish or yellow ones.

Jan, I think you might benefit from talking to your doctor about this. This could be restless leg syndrome even if the symptoms aren’t typical. You might also need some tests to see where your electrolytes are rather than guessing and supplementing your diet.

I agree, Jeremy and I will talk to him next time I go.

I have them too. My Mom used to take quinine for them, but they made her ears ring so much she quit. The doc told her to drink ginger ale or tonic water. I don’t take anything. I just stand up until I can actually move again.
