oh i just saw that you can’t see the pic very well. sorry…if you go to the link and click for the scarf pattern it will tell you it takes 2 balls for $19.98!
it’s just that Lion Brand is so…what…I just don’t think their homespun holds up very well. My sweater totally frizzed out. I still wear it…but for all the money, I’d want it to look new. But that’s the deal with synthetics.
And some of their patterns…bleah…
but it of COURSE is personal taste…they must be doing something right tho…they seem to be making tons o dough.
oh let me say that i don’t think there is anything wrong with most of lion’s yarn…i have more than my fair share of their yarn in my house…bought some today in fact…and this one is probably a delightful yarn…i just don’t think that i would pay that much for 33 yards of acrylic yarn $10 is a price i expect to find for nice yarn at my LYS…not for yarn at Hobby Lobby!
I’ll chime in here, too. I happen to abhor Homespun, to the point that I once asked a stranger in Michael’s if she had every used it so I could warn her off.
She said she had and that she loved it. My own daughter loves it. I’d demand a DNA test if I wasn’t awake when she was born. :rofling:
I guess that’s why there are so many yarns. I have used Woolease and would recommend it, for example. It’s not all Lion Yarn, just very expensive ones and Homespun
I’m always interested in something new, but I agree, I’ll go to my LYS for luxury yarn. Although, I am interested in feeling it. I have yet to see the Lion version of cashmere in our HL or Mikey’s, I have to admit, they seem very pokey in stocking stuff when it comes out.
I have lots of other Lion yarns, i like suede. I even have some of the dreaded Microspun that I haven’t used yet that was purchased at the height of my “gotta get it all” stashapalooza when i first got on board. But, I intend to use it and use the tips provided in the other post to make my experience anti-traumatic
I’ve used Homespun a small handful of times, but it’s only been for scarves in combo with fun fur, which there is a whole moral debate on in itself (fun fur haters vs. fun fur users…sigh, can’t we all just get along) I like Fun Fur for it’s novelty effect, like Grrrr scarves etc… but not to blatantly duplicate actual animal fur, some patterns like that make me :?eyebrow: wanna hork.
I have alot of lion in my house too but for the price of that I’d go to the LYS… although right now I’m actually thinking of frogging a homespun project to do my 1/2 sweater cause the LYS doesn’t carry what I need… really shouldn’t cause the homespun splits like crazy but I’ve kinda entered I want it now phase and later I can do me a wool one… that is of course if I can get a gauge swatch to match :oo:
i don’t know…even $6 seems a little pricey for less than a football field of yarn! Heck…i believe the nature wool is about $9 for 220 yards…or even Cascade 220 is what…$6 for 220 yards? AND it doesn’t feel acrylic-y at all? shrug that’s just a lot of money considering that you would need several balls of it for just about any project. i am even having a hard time buying that you can get a decent sized scarf out of 2 balls.
I almost got suckered into buying Moonlight mohair at Joann’s post thanksgiving sale. I love the metallic sparkle in it…but it is not very soft and I can’t justify the price when much nicer mohair blends are available at the LYS for the same price or cheaper!!
