New knitting abbreviations

I watched 2 videos about the 2x1 LPC &2x1 RPC but I’m still confused bc in one it purled the left needle first then knit he it knit first then purled. It just didn’t seem right. Am I over thinking this?
P.S. having problem with posting image

Welcome to the forum!
For these cable crosses, the 2 knit sts either cross in front of the purl to the left or to the right. To cross to the left, the 2 knits hang out at the front and the next stitch is purled. To cross to the right, the stitch to be purled hangs out to the back while the next to sts are knit. So it depends on the direction of the cross whether the next stitch or stitches are knit or purled.

2/1 LPC = Slip 2 sts onto a cable needle and hold at front of work. Purl 1 st from left needle, then knit 2 sts from cable needle.
2/1 RPC = Slip 1 st onto a cable needle and hold at back of work. Knit 2 sts from left needle, then purl 1 st from cable needle.
