New kitten and knitting

We got a new kitten this weekend. Really she is pretty well behaved, for a kitten. But now that the kids are at school today she is bored.

So I sat down to knit. I knew she’d be tempted by the yarn, but I thought, well I’ll just be firm and put her down and move her away when I have to. After all she will have to learn to stay away from yarn anyway. Well that doesn’t work. Especially while doing stranded knitting and having 1 color in each hand!!

So my advice of the day is this : Don’t knit Fair Isle with the help of a kitten!

Attached is a photo of the new little beast. Her name is Jelly Bean.

Some of you may recall we got Simon, an adult cat, 2 weeks ago. He’s pictured in the avatar. He still, even before the kitten arrived, has not left the bedroom. Roams in the bedroom and bathroom and closet quite happily. He lets all of us pet him. But he won’t leave the room. So now I am striving to not let the kitten in to “his” room. He needs his own space. Last night he heard the kitten meowing and he stood in the door way and hissed! Way to protect his space! The kitten was shut in my daughter’s room and didn’t have clue.

OH-MY-GOODNESS!!!

What a cutie patootie! You can see the devil in her eye! Simon is gorgeous too!

He is too cute!!

they are both soooo georgous.

jelly bean is the image of my first cat as a kitten, holly. shes 11 now. i have the same problem with my 4 week old kitten. her mums boring and wont play and shes the only kitten. i dont have enough hours to play like she wants to it hard isnt it.

yarn and kittens hehe. all my 15 do it. i go into my bedroom where i keep all my knitting bits. i have had to bin about 10 skeins this week alone because they drag it into the litter tray!! you get the cute eyes and you cant stay mad hehe. if jelly bean turns out anything like my holly, good luck lol. shes trouble and knows it hehe

they are georgous though thanks for sharing the piccys, you ahve put me to shame i still havent got any of my baby kitty yet

Love the photos, they are both beautiful. I have two kittens that are 8 months old and one that’s 9months old. the older one is the yarn thief and the 2 other ones are the destroyers. I find it quite funny that the older one does not want to play with the yarn, she just brings it for the other two to mutilate while she watch

Hmmm…once the cats are out of the bathroom, you may have to go in there to knit in peace!!!

I have six cats and I love them dearly…thankfully two don’t care at all about yarn but the other four are varying degrees of monsters when it comes to knitting!

Good luck!

I WANNA KITTY!!!

ahem … sorry about that, but i miss having a pet (particularly a cat) so much that my first thought when i saw the adorable Jelly Bean was ‘i wanna, i wanna, i wanna’. that was quickly followed by ‘yes they are little devils aren’t they’

Im am sure with time, Jelly Bean and Simon will develop some sort of relationship. Mind you, my dad had a tom called simon who was the new guy, his other three he had had for several years, and were all female. Simon never fitted in and one day sadly he just dissapeared. We think he went of to find his own territory where he could be a real tom and not be under the thumb of three stroppy females!

AWWW! What an adorable baby!

Perhaps you can give the kitteh it’s own yarn to play with?

Cute furball.

I don’t recommend giving yarn to cats especially kittens. I know they love it, but one of our cats nearly choked on a long piece. I keep all yarn away from mine now. Maybe a spray bottle or something noisy like a can with pennies in it will make kitty stay away.

Or, when I was first starting to knit, I made a TON of swatches…Well, one swatch I turned into a little mouse for the kitties…I also took a small piece of fabric and sewed some catnip into it, and, put the fabric in the mouse then sewed that up. Maybe that would help?? A kitten might appreciate it more than my adult cats did, my cats pretty much looked at it and walked off…lol…Man, I got some lazy cats :teehee:

Oh, how CUTE!!!

They’re both cute cats!

My older cat likes to catch my yarn when I’m knitting, but will leave it alone if it’s not “alive”. My younger cat, though… I woke up one morning to find that a basket of yarn had been wound around 3 or 4 pieces of furniture. It took me days to untangle that mess! I recommend finding a basket with a lid to it so you can keep your knitting safe from Jelly Bean.

I have done the same, but darn it when a kitten wants to play with your yarn it is really hard to stop them! Itchy still crawls into my knitting lap and tries to chew the needles.:hair:

Our young cat LOVES my hand knit dishcloths. :teehee:
