Ok I have just seen the most cutest baby blanket pattern free on loveknitting if anyone wants it and am tempted to make it
I know gauge isnt important when it comes to blankets but is needle size? Patt asks for 3.25 mm I think - I cant stand knitting anything smaller than 4mm…
That is a cute baby blanket!
Gauge isn’t critical for projects like this but it is important. You could see what gauge you get with your yarn and the 4mm needles. If you’re close and you like the knit fabric (not too loose and lacy), go ahead and use the larger needles.
That IS a super cute blanket! I saved it to my iPad!
The reason they suggest that needle size is because the yarn used in the pattern is a sport weight. If you use a larger needle on that yarn you’ll get a loose or possibly lacy fabric depending on your own style. So if you use a heavier weight yarn a larger needle would be fine. Keep in mind the blanket will be larger that way, but that’s probably no big deal for a blanket.
Sure. A size 6 needle (4.0) could be used on DK weight. The blankets details make it harder to resize so bigger yarn=bigger blanket. Just keep that in mind.
Who wouldn’t love this blanket? If it’s a bit big, that’s going to be ok. There’s no exact right size and since babies do grow, the blanket will only get more use in the future. Can’t wait to see this one!
