Hi all, sorry for the basic question but I’ve knit a gauge square using 5mm needles instead of the recommended 4mm and have the right number of stitches. The pattern then says cast on using 3.25mm needles so what size should I use? 3.75 or 4.25mm or even 4mm? I normally just go up a size but not sure when two. Many thanks Zoe
Does it have any information on gauge for the smaller size needles? I would try 3.75mm, myself, see how it goes.

Thanks for your reply. No it only shows the stitch count for the 4mm. It’s only for the rib of a jumper then back to 4mm (or in my case 5mm)
Ah, I guessed it might be. I think 3.75mm would be fine for that!

In terms of diameter ratio, the 4mm is closer than the 3.75 (4/3.25 = 1.23, 5/4 = 1.25, 5/3.75 = 1.33). But they’re both close enough that it may not make much practical difference for your ribbing.
Good luck, and welcome to the forum btw!
