Need some help please!

So I’m working on this great looking bolero sweater, but came to this one part of the pattern that is really confusing me!! Can someone help me figure this out? Here it is:

Increase using the backward loop method. Increase 3 x 3 (4) sts, 5 x 3 sts, 1 x 2 sts and 9 x 1 sts on every RS row.

First of all, the backward loop increase? And second, these ?x? st increases don’t make much sense to me. But I usually work with patterns that pretty much spell things out for me. So if anyone can simplify this for me, hugs and kisses!!! :muah: Tee Hee!!

The backward loop inc is the same as backward loop CO where you just loop the yarn around your needle with a twist. The x is times, so inc 3 (4) sts 3 times, then 3 sts 5 times, 2 sts once and 1 sts times.

ooohhhh. i’ve never seen it written like that before. it had me scratching my head!

Yeah, not a lot of patterns are written with how many times you do it first.
