Need Help with Instructions from a pattern (I'm new at this)

Hey All,

I’m a rookie in the knitting world and am doing my first project without help from friends. I’m working off of a hat pattern I found online.

I’ve started on the bottom of the hat, however the next step of the instructions says the following:

“Change to stockinette st (knit every round), inc 2 stitches in the 1st round.”

What exactly does “inc 2 stitches in the 1st round” mean?

Thank you in advance for any help you all can give me!

What exactly does “inc 2 stitches in the 1st round” mean?
This means you have to add 2 stitches in the 1st round by either knitting in the front and back of one stitch twice or by two m1 increases.
Hope this answers your question!

Susan

You could space them out so one is at the beginning, the other halfway around.

If you haven’t watched them yet, the videos here on Make 1 Left and Make 1 Right are how to increase in my favorite way, that is, almost invisibly. Also, when you are told to increase in a row, they often don’t bother to tell you this , but they mean for it to be evenly spaced. Except for situations like a thumb gusset in a mitten-- that HAS to be in the right spots because you are trying to create an extension off of the original piece. So in other words, if you combine zkimom’s and suzeeq’s advice, it’ll be perfect!:grphug:
