Need help with baby hat requiring crochet finishing

I wonder if anyone can help me.

I am making a baby hat, and i have got to the end and have no idea how to finish it off. I am using dpn’s and have 3 stitches left on each (9 total) and the remaining instructions read…

“To finish off: Cut yarn leaving 6 or more inches. Pull through remaining stitches and knot. Use remaining yarn at crochet loop on top of cap.”

I have no idea how to crochet. Can anyone either explain to me how to crochet this loop, or give me an alternative finishing idea. I thought about an i-cord but wonder if it will be too chunky.

Here’s the full pattern… http://www.midcoasthealth.com/volunteer/volknitnewborn.htm

Thanks for your help.

I made a baby had with an i-cord on the top that I tied in a knot. It turned out really cute.

That looks like a chain stitch closed with a slip stitch at the first chain.

Google “crochet chain stitch” and “crochet slip stitch” and you should be able to find plenty of information.

The chain stitch is very easy, definitely easier than making an I-cord.
