Need help understanding this pattern for a jockstrap pouch

Second month of crocheting and I’m trying to follow this pattern to make the front pouch of a male jockstrap. Everything made sense until i got to Row 6 and now I’m lost. There seems to be a new repetition that i can’t make sense of. After the 8 dc, Am i to put the stitches in brackets all in 1 stitch and then dc to end of row after that? Or am i just putting 1dc and a ch1 in each stitch as i go? But then where would the increased number of stitches in the row count come from?

Please help

As I read it the stitches in brackets are all worked into the stitch at the middle of the row. You’ll have the same number of dc on each side of the increases.

I agree with @GrumpyGramma. All of your increases will be straight down the center of the piece, working into a ch1 space, with an equal number of dcs on each side of the increase.

Earlier pre-caffeination I couldn’t find the ch sp in the previous row and so went with stitch. I’m glad you saw and pointed it out. Thank you so much.
