[FONT=Century Gothic]I have just discovered the joys of magic loop knitting, and now I’m hooked. I’m attempting to make “Bulky Weight Magic Loop Toe-Up Socks”. Everything seems easy enough, but there are two references/instructions that confuse me.
The first is that the pattern says:
Rnd 1: Knit (note: you will need to knit the sts on the second needle through the back loops)
Which needle is considered to be my second needle? The one in my right hand or left hand (I’m right handed)? And, since I never turn my work, does this mean that when the appropriate sts are on the second needle and are READY to be knit, I should knit into the back of the loop?
The second question is almost the same, but it says:
"Needle 1 (heel needle): K1, M1L, K to last st. on needle, M1R, K1"
“Needle 2 (instep needle): Knit”
Again, which needle is my instep/heel needle? Right or left? And again, since I only knit off one needle throughout the entire piece, does this mean that once the sts. that are the “instep” stitches are on my left needle, I knit those according to pattern? And does this also mean that I am working different stitch patterns within the same row?

I see no one has answered this so here is my opinion. Since these socks are designed to be done with ML the first needle would be the part of the loop you are on immediately after you begin a new round and the second needle would be the second loop, the one after you end the first loop and have to rearrange it so you can begin the stitches on the second loop of the ML. Did your pattern tell you how many stitches to put on each part? That would be helpful in knowing if what I’m saying makes sense.
Needle 1 would be the needle holding the first half of the stitches you will be knitting. Basically you should have divided all your stitches in half to do ML, correct? So needle 1 = first half of stitches, needle 2 = second half of stitches.
