Need help reading a pattern step

Im crocheting a stuffed snake for my friend and im having trouble understanding a specific step

2 sc, inc, [4 sc, inc] x2, 2 sc

im not sure if its asking me to do 2 single crochets and an increase followed by 4 single crochets and an increase twice, follwed by two more single crochet stitches, i tried this but it doesnt seem like there is enough stitches to do this, am i understanding the step wrong or did i miscount stitches earlier on

Welcome to KH! What pattern are you using? How many stitches do you have before starting this row?

As I read it sc, sc, 2 sc in the next st, sc, sc, sc, sc, 2 sc in the next st, sc, sc, sc, sc, 2 sc in the next st, sc, sc.

that’s the pattern, row 5, starting out with 15 stitches, and thats how i read it as well however there arent enough stitches left over to be able to do that fully

That should work if you have 15 stitches. When counting how many stitches you have available to work into, count “inc” as 1, not 2. You will end with 18.

If X = sc and V = inc:
X X V X X X X V X X X X V X X

Easy to do! We’ve all been there. I find it often helps to read it out loud.
