Need help reading a cable pattern/grid

I have a beautiful pattern that is layed out in a grid and I’m not really sure how to use it. The grid shows stiches, not colors. The part I’m confused about is on the WS am I supposed to do the opposite of what the pattern says (k when it says p) or follow it exactly. Here’s an example of a couple rows as it is layed out on the grid I have:

3 k k p p k k k k k p p p p p k k k k k p p k k
2 k k p p k m2 k p p p p p k m2 k p p k k
1 k k p p m2 p p p p p m2 p p k k

Can someone please tell me how to approach this? Thanks

Is it knit in the round? If it is, you would knit the stitches as they appear, right to left on every row.

It looks like they’re showing the pattern as it would appear when it faces you.

Does the chart have symbols or is it how you layed it out?

Symbols will often mean knit on the right side and purl on the wrong side, so the chart looks like the pattern, but the stitches are reversed.

Also, it it is knit flat, then the right side rows should be read from right to left and the wrong side rows from left to right.

There are some other symbols to indicate cabling.

I’m planning on knitting this flat (not in the round). I think this is as I was kind of fearing, which is that on the WS rows I will have to reverse all the stiches.

Oh well, always up for a new challenge!

Thanks!

After a few rows, it will be obvious what stitches you need to knit for the non-cabled section–basically knitting the knits and purling the purls.
