Need Help Please: Mary's Summer Bag from KnitPicks

Hi Everyone!
I am so confused! :slight_smile: The following is the beginning of the pattern and where I am confused.

Row 1: Knit to last st, M1.
Repeat row 1 until there are 30 sts on needle.
Knit next 5 rows in garter stitch.
Row 2: Knit to last 2 sts, K2tog.

Repeat row 2 until there are 20 sts on needle. Do not turn.

Pick up 25 sts along rounded end,
20 sts along cast on edge,
and 25 sts along rounded end. Place a marker.
Join in the round and knit one round to marker. (90 sts)

Are there actually 15 rows between Row 1 and Row 2? and then between Row 2 and picking up stitches are there actually 10 rows?
And lastly, I do not understand where I am picking up stitches- Along the side?

I didn’t do the math, but yes, there are several rows between row 1 and row 2, and several more after row 2 before picking up stitches. You start out making an oval that will be the bottom of the bag, then you pick up stitches all the way around to make the sides, and knit upwards toward the top of the bag. The live stitches you’re left with before picking up stitches are one side of the bag- then you pick up side 2, side 3 and side 4, join, and knit upwards in the round.
