Need help ASAP with scarf pattern

It says to caston 48 stitches

Then:
Row 1: K2tog (repeat 4 times), *yarn round, purl (repeat 8 times), k2tog (repeat 8 times) Repeat from * 3 more times. Then yarn round, purl (repeat 8 times), k2tog (repeat 4 times)

It doesn’t come close to adding up to 48.

Please tell me what I’m doing wrong!

It looks like your stitch count should remain the same. Each k2tog decreases 1 stitch but each yarn round needle which is the same as a yarn over increases one stitch. It appears that for every k2tog there is a yrn. You can check the Glossary tab at the top.

What I mean is that I’m running out of yarn before I can even repeat it

I think you mean you don’t have enough stitches to repeat as instructed? Can you link to your pattern?

It’s the rainbow scarf

I’ve not knit a chevron pattern myself so I can’t vouch for the pattern being written correctly. You might look at other chevron patterns to see how they compare.

some of these may help too: http://newstitchaday.com/?s=chevron (2 pages, link for page 2 at bottom of page 1)

Thank you so much!

What a good looking scarf! It’s shown on Ravelry with “no projects” and it may well have frustrated others. By my count it takes 120sts cast on. The repeat alone is 24sts times 4. The cast on stitch number is a mistake.
Try it with 120sts and it should work.

Hi all - my apologies for the inconsistencies with this pattern, I had literally lifted the basic pattern from a blanket that I made and then forgot to edit. It is cast on 48 stitches, but the amount of repeats required are less - I have altered this pattern now. Sorry! :hiding: Holly (Full of Beans and Sausages!)

How thoughtful of you, Holly (Full of Beans and Sausages!) Thank you. It really is a beautiful pattern. Welcome to KH.

I am just glad it is sorted - I had no idea that this pattern had these errors and it has been doing the rounds lately, just a shame for others who have been put off. Hey oh, we live and learn! Lovely forum by the way, definitely going to have a nosey around now!
