Need help 1st 2 rows crochet granny sweater

I can’t figure out how to get started in this pattern[

I have started and chained 54 joined with slst

Then I worked 1st round up to “work around armhole”
It’s like it is telling me to work another round, even though I am still in the 1st round. And I can’t tell where and/or what to do with the 12 chains I started this round with.

See 1st 2 rounds of pattern below

Does the crochet chart at the end of the pattern help at all with stitch placement?

Thanks for including the pattern link. The fifth photo on this project page might be helpful.

Best I can determine the chart is for the largest size. I think the original chain is the armhole opening and the ch immediately after the sl st join is the underarm. Turn and immediately work across the ch12, continue around the the circle of stitches from the first ch, then work across the ch 12 on the other side.

Turn at end of each rnd unless
otherwise stated.

Others are better at interpreting patterns than me so if I’m wrong one of them should come to the rescut.

Thanks
I have figured out the first two rows now I am totally stuck at end of row three and beginning of row 4
It’s like on the offshoot that is from the chain 12, one side turns the corner fine with the 3dc ch3 3dc
But the other side is veering out
And the same thing happens row 4 and then 5
I wish I could upload a picture

Yes it did
But see my reply to grumpy grandpa

Fingers crossed for a photo upload.

When you come around at the end of Rnd 3, where it says
“2 dc in last ch-3 sp. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of
beg ch-6 sp. Sl st to next ch-3 sp.
Turn.”
…that’s kind of not what the chart shows. The last 2dc don’t go in a ch-3 sp, they go right next to the starting chain for that round, and then you sl st in the 3rd chain, to make up the final 3dc cluster.

Make a couple of slip stitches into the loop made by the starting chain, past where you just attached the round.

Turn and ch6 to start Rnd 4.

The corner won’t really show until you’ve started the next round, or maybe even finished it–the last 2dc and sl st are what forms the corner. Until you’ve worked into it, there’s just that ch6 loop hanging off the corner.

All of the rounds will end and start the same way, until you’ve done Rnd 19, which should be a RS round.

Does anyone know why I can’t upload photos?

I have for 2 months
I sent an email and have not heard back

I wish I could you all I don’t have a Landscape icon on top
Mine is on the bottom right
And anytime I get “ sorry error uploading “

What kind of file are you uploading (jpg, jpeg, png, gif)?
How big is the file?
Have you tried a couple of different photos?
Does copy and paste work?
