Hello Everyone,
I’m Knitpearlz, and I’m happy to be here among others that love knitting. I am a 48 yr old mother of 4, 2 grown men, 1 grown daughter and a 13 yr old boy. I am at this time attending college full time in the medical field. I am fairly new to knitting, although I’m teaching myself through self help tutorials and books, I do get stuck on certain patterns. I want to knit my daughter some of those flip top convertible mittens for christmas, I don’t believe they are that hard, however my yarn choices I have and needles sizes are somewhat limited by my budget at this time…Any suggestions on a good simple worsted weight pattern for Easy skill level anyone?
There is a “flip-top” pattern on www.knittingpatterncentral.com. It’s on a site where you have to register to get it, but it’s completely free. There may be others on there, but I couldn’t tell from their names. . .you might just need to look at a bunch. Also-- if that pattern, above, isn’t for worsted weight or the correct size, you could probably just get the idea from the directions and then make it work with a “regular” mitten pattern in the size and yarn weight you like. Also, try www.knitty.com. They have a pattern for “convertables”, that is, gloves which have a mitten top which flips back (it’s called Broad St Gloves), but they may also have flip-top mittens-- it’ll just take some sifting through their list as well.
Thanks Brittyknits! your suggestion of altering a pattern sounds good, I decided to take out my knitting book and use a regular glove pattern and use a flip top pattern for the flip mitten flap…lol
I seen a pattern in a knitters blog, I believe she is a more experienced knitter with all those different color changes. Her flip top mittens are the most unique I have seen yet. So I decided to do my fingers different colors like hers, I love that.
I have to laugh - when I first read the post, I thought I had read, “flip flop.” mittens. LOL. I thought, What the heck are flip flop mittens? Racing through my mind was someone knitting flip flops into mittens. I’m so dense sometimes. Maybe I shouldn’t be handling pointy sticks afterall.
hahaha! that is too funny Flip Flop Mittens!
I do that too… I’m majoring in the medical field, but Im getting some of my math and comp classes out of the way right now…I have another medical and Comp class for Winter term. Knitting is very relaxing, I crochet too, but I have done that a lot longer. knitting is prettier and last a lot longer to me…
