Need a fingerless mitten pattern for children

Does anyone know where I can find a pattern for fingerless mittens for a child (he is eight years old). I have a pattern to fit adults, but not for children. I would like it to be in the round. Thanks!

Here are a few patterns I have recently searched, using circular needles or DPN needles.

The last one my daughter found today and said it is really easy! Good Luck and I hope my searching helps you…

This one is totally customizable – for whatever hand size you want, with whatever yarn at whatever gauge…you just plug your measurements and gauge into the worksheet and voila!

I love the Knucks pattern!

Thank you Cleo, Julie & Brendajos. I checked out all of your suggestions.

Cleo - I have made the one that your daughter found and they were easy. They were my very first project on dpns! I’ve made quite a few pairs of them.

Brendajos - Have you made the “Knucks” pattern? It’s really cool that it’s made from the fingers down. I think I may give that one a go, since they have a child’s pair.

Julie - I printed out all the info for the customizable ones. That is great to have.

I again thank all of you. I’ll post a picture of them when I get them done. My SIL just asked me today if I would make up a pair for my nephew Joey who turned eight a month ago because his little hands get cold in the morning, so I’m going to give it a go, eventhough the “Knucks” pattern seems a little complicated. Hopefully I’ll get through it okay. If I have any questions, I know I can come here to KH and get the answers I need! That is so awesome!

Have a good night! :muah:

yup yup…i love the pattern. I went and got more yarn to make more pairs. going to make knucks with different colored fingers next!

Those look GREAT! Love the stitching! One question though ~ probably a dumb one, but here goes ~ when doing the fingers, do you put them on stitch holders until you have them all done and are reading to put them back on the needles? I’ve never made a glove with fingers before, so it’s a little intimidating, but I want to be able to do this! Any tips you could give me would be very much appreciated!

Thank you!

Brendajos ~ I love the quote from Mahatma Gandhi in your signature. I only pray that he was right. It’s getting to be a very scary world that we live in now. :pout:

i love the quote too!

I put each of the fingers on waste yarn until i was done. I actually made all the fingers (except the index finger) before I started and marked them as to what they were. When i was ready to knit them up i took them off the waste yarn and put them on the needles like shown in the picture. I did mine on two circs because i would prefer it to DPNs whenever possible. I had never done fingered gloves either and I am terrible about following patterns because i have the attention span of a gnat! these were so super easy i would encourage anybody to do them! The hardest part for me was the stitching since i have never done any embroidery at all. you can dooooooooo eeeeeeeeet!

That’s very encouraging! Thanks Brendajos. They look great and they were your first pair with fingers ~ wow! I’m impressed. :yay:

I’ll keep you posted as to my progress and post a picture when I get done. I’ll probably start them tomorrow. I have to go through my stash and make sure I’ve got the right yarn and needles ~ I think I do.

Thanks again for all your help. Have a great night. :waving:

Hi Brendajos:

Just wanted to let you know that I have almost one of the Knucks fingerless gloves done! :cheering: It really isn’t too bad! I’m doing the ribbing at the cuff now and I’ll probably start the other one tonight. I’m just doing out of Lion Brand Woolease in “Blue Mist” and leaving it plain, since it’s for my eight-year-old nephew.

Thanks for the suggestion and the encouragement. This is a fun and easy pattern! Yay!!! :cheering: :cheering: :cheering:

wow you are way faster than i am! i don’t have a lot of time to knit though so i was happy that i was able to finish them within two weeks! I think the pattern is brilliant in how easy and quick it is! Can’t wait to see them. :cheering:

Not that fast! I’ve been working on them all afternoon. I’m getting a bad cold and cough, so I’m laying low and knitting! I love how the pattern is written from the fingers down, instead of from the cuff up. I think that’s my favorite part of the pattern! It gets a little awkward when only using the 2 needles when joining the “fingers”, but not too bad. I’m really enjoying these. Thanks for suggesting them. I had seen them when the Knitty issue came out, but I thought that they would be too hard. I’ve only made the fingerless type with just the thumb and the opening for the rest of the fingers. I like this one. I’m going to make a pair for my dad and my mom, and then a pair for me! I’m always making stuff for other people and not myself! Isn’t that always the way?!

Here is my first “Knuck” almost done. I have just a few more rows of ribbing to do and then close up the gaps between the fingers. I think it looks okay for my first try. I know my nephew Joey will be glad to have them to keep his hands warm. He’s been wearing big snow gloves right now! At least with these he can keep them on in class if he’s cold and still be able to write, draw, whatever!

oooh it looks great!!! Nice work :cheering:

Thank you! I love yours. When I make mine, I’ll add some decorative stitching to them. I didn’t think my nephew would appreciate it! :teehee:

ooooh i don’t know…if i do some for my nephew i will likely add something…just words to the fingers i would suppose, but still something cool ya know!

Maybe I will then ~ I’ll have to think of something clever! :?? I just wasn’t sure. I think it would look cute.

does he have any hobbies that you could incorporate into it?

He’s really into Star Wars right now. Maybe I could spell that out ~ it even has the right amount of letters! What do you think? Is that kinda stupid?
