Neckband

Hello! Desperately need help here. I have followed the instructions below which seems to have connect all sides on one needle, which is impossible! So I switched to a circular needle but having never used one before has completely confused me. I have now ripped back to where I pick up stitches trying to use the staring needle again but still all sides are bound together.

I have made a mistake somewhere but I can’t eve identify what I have done. I’d be grateful for any advice.

Thanks,
Sharon

Neckband

With RS facing, using 51⁄2mm (US 9) needles and yarn A, pick up and knit 9 sts from cast-off edge of left saddle shoulder strap, and 7 [7: 7: 9: 9: 11: 11: 11: 13] sts down left side of front neck, K across 17 [17: 17: 17: 17: 17: 17: 17: 15] sts on front holder, pick up and knit 7 [7: 7: 9: 9: 11: 11: 11: 13] sts up right side of front neck, and 9 sts from cast-off edge of right saddle shoulder strap, then K across 27 [27: 27: 29: 29: 31: 31: 31: 31] sts on back holder inc 1 st at centre. 77 [77: 77: 83: 83: 89: 89: 89: 91] sts.

What is the name of your pattern and designer?
When all the pieces of the sweater are seamed, the neckband is picked up for circular knitting. It may seem impossible but it works and is commonly used. You can use a small diameter 16inch circular, two circulars or magic loop. That’s the kind of technique this pattern is calling for.
If you open up one of the seams, you could knit this on straight needles but do you really want to undo a seam?

This video gives you an idea of how to work this on a small cirucular. You have some held sts so you would just knit across those rather than needing to pick up sts.
