I started another top down sweater last night, https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sigh-pullover but cannot sort out the first couple of rows. Even in the cold light of day, my increase stitches don’t equate to the pattern.
I’m making 3rd size, Co 46.
1st row p1, pm, p7, pm, p30, pm, p7, pm
2nd *kfb, k to 1st before marker, kfb, sm, kfb, repeat from * to last marker kfb.
I make that 8 stitches increased giving me 54.
As the pattern goes on you kfb on 1st and last stitches and kfb before and after every marker. 10 increases per row. Do this 7 times so 70 stitches. Added to my 54 gives me 134 but the pattern says I should have 136. Aaaggghh
Lovely, classic sweater.
Your calculations are correct. The copy of the pattern that I have had 134sts for the 3rd size however. Perhaps it’s a later version that’s had initial errors corrected? https://www.cascadeyarns.com/pattern/sigh-pullover
There’s also a table of stitch counts on the Ravelry page that shows 134sts at this point. Very handy information.
Thank you, I thought I was losing the plot (again). I downloaded mine from the Lovecrafts website, I’ll message them. I didnt know about the table, will have a look. I dont think I use Ravelry enough, I need to get a bit more familiar with it.
Glad to see you aren’t losing your mind! How frustrating to be trying to get to an incorrect stitch count.
It’s got an interesting detail on the hem cuffs and neck, rib and what looks like a stockinette roll over, I would never have though to put the two together but it looks good and the rib prevents the stockinette curling any further - I may rob the idea for my sweater!
I would too. I’m not a tall person but I find most patterns I browse seem shorter than I’d want. I’m learning to guess at how much extra yarn to buy fir the added length in body and sleeves.
You have given me ideas, I think I will be doing a swatch tomorrow with this rib and roll hem! Thanks.
My Anne Hanson “Leaving” sweater has that rolled edge detail on the 1x1 twisted ribbing. I like it! Don’t have to worry about how the cast-on / bind-off looks. This is just a swatch, to practice the buttonholes and the tapered transition to the neck ribbing.
It’s so juice
I’ve tried a swatch this morning but I no longer have my finer gauge needles (snapped) so I think I need to wait until I buy a new one or use a different yarn. My 3.25mm is too big for the ribbing in this yarn.
Anyway, still nice to experiment.
In your pattern was the rib made in a smaller needle than the stockinette? I’m sure that’s what I need.
There were 3 needle sizes. US4 (3.5mm) for the body, which was largely stockinette, US5 (3.75mm) for the ribbing, and US 3 (3.25mm) for the rolled edging. Depending on gauge, of course. The yarn called for was “any soft, relaxed sport yarn that knits to gauge”. I used Jody Long Alba, and went up one size on all needles…but that’s just me.
Thank you.
I’m surprised by the ribbing being in a slightly bigger needle than the body, I had expected a little smaller. Interesting. I think I’ll try 2 or 3 sizes with the biggest for the main body then smaller on the rib and roll. I have the sizes you mention but they aren’t working on this yarn. Or it’s just the yarn, this is one I bought on a whim (and full of medication!) and am yet to make friends with it. I don’t like variegated yarn so what was I thinking?
