Neat edges wanted

Hi there!

I am new to here. I intriduced myself on the according thread, which I can’t find anymore :???: anyway, I am working on the parrot of “A World Of Knitted Toys” but I’m not convinced about the edges of my work. When holding the knit side facing me, the left edge is nice, neat and tight, but the right one is too loose. It’s gonna make holes once I sew the bird together and one will be able to see the stuffing.

Also for the wings it is crucial to have nice clean edges.

How can I best make both edges neat & tight?

Thanks for letting me know!

Cheers,
Myriam

It probably has to do with how tightly you’re working the first stitches on the purl side as opposed to the knit side.

When the knit side is facing you, you’re starting that row on your ‘wonky’ side. Try knitting those first few stitches tightly to make the first stitch really pull and practically wrap itself around the needle.

Apparently you’re doing something to this effect on the purl side since that side looks better. Watch how your stitches are responding when you start the row with a purl.
