Hi I am knitting baby clothes at present and find i get bulky seams. I have tried to neaten edges by slipping purlwise the first stitch snd knirting the last stitch of each row (in stocking stitch) but it comes outas a very loose chain stitch. Any advice welcome.
What method are you using to join the seams? Slipping sts at the edges works well for projects with exposed edges like scarves but isn’t as helpful for seamed edges. The stockinette edge seams nicely with mattress stitch or a back stitch worked one stitch in from the edges.
Have you considered patterns that don’t have seams? Eliminating seams is a good solution when possible from my perspective. If you do mattress stitch there are other, flatter stitches available. Here’s a link grabbed at random.
