One of my friends was working on this photo and she had the pattern in a physical book that she can’t find anymore. She doesn’t remember what this was called. Can anyone help?
Thanks.

A ripple pattern. That is all I Got.
It looks like it has a curve. So something in the feather and fan stitches…
Try having a look on these 2 sites, they are great and I’ve used them a lot over the years to identify stitches.

From what I can see I’d guess old shale. What is it? A sweater, blanket, etc.?
She says it’s a shawl
You might ask if this looks similar.

I would say old shale. I found this description:
BASICALLY, Old Shale has an 18 sts, 4 row repeat. Feather and Fan has a 2 row, 14 st repeat . SO… if you are working it as a shawl edging from the INSIDE out, in the ROUND, you work 2 knit rounds, one holey round and 1 PURL round.
Good example! IMHO Feather and Fan and Old Shale are quite different. I know they get lumped together a lot but I really don’t understand why.
I prefer the old shale. I just finished a shawl in mustard, and am now making another in peacock blue.
It’s because of the curve. I love Old Shale, so pretty. When I started knitting it I used to find groups of stitches under the umbrella of Feather and Fan and old shale was always in there with many similar shaped stitches.
As an update, she found her book. The book calls it waves but it was indeed old shale. Thanks.
I bet she’s ecstatic about finding the book. I would be!
