Now, I clicked on the sizing chart for the pieces and has certain numbers for the pieces, but the ‘fit to chest’ and ‘circumferences’ don’t match up? Unless I’m looking at it wrong?
I’m making this for a friend and was told that his shirt, laid flat is 19 inches. So, I have to do the 5th number set?
Also, (additional question), I am not big on seaming, but I will do this to avoid intarsia in the round. But since this Stockinette, could I slip 1 the first and last stitch for easier seaming, or will it look super noticeable when seamed?
[That’s right, the chest size and the circumference of the sweater are different. The chest size is the actual meanurement of the person’s chest. The circumference of the sweater is the measurement of the sweater size with extra inches in this sweater for the ease of fit. The schematic for the sweater is showing only one side so the width shown is half the circumference. The cast on makes sense too, given the stitch gauge.
It’s not a problem to slip the first stitch of the row. That isn’t going to show on the outside of the seam either slipped or not.
When you say that a shirt, laid out is 19", is that total (circumference) or is that the width across the front of the shirt? If it’s a dress shirt, that should give you about enough ease to go with the same number for the actual sweater or maybe an inch or so larger. It depends on how tightly you want this to fit. It looks like it shoud be a fairly loose fit.
19 inches is with the shirt laid flat, so the circumference should be twice that. I’m certainly going for baggier (maybe even a size up) especially this is wool yarn and might be itchy for direct contact with skin. (This is for a very skinny adult male, just for reference.)
So, I’m correct in saying the 5th number set is the right one?
Yes, this looks to me like a loose fit kind of sweater. Assuming the shirt is a dress shirt and so not worn especially close to the body, I think that the 40" circumference should work. So yes, the 5th size.
