My first knitted toy- sock monkey of course

I’m pretty excited to have finished my first knitted toy that I just had to share. It’s actually my first ‘real’ project anyway besides an easy scarf and a bit of an oddball blanket.

This sock monkey is for my 6 yr old son. The pattern had a scarf instead of the cape, but my son is such a superman/batman/anythingsuperheroman junkie that I couldn’t resist. The cape was completely made up by my newbie self so dont laugh too hard. I also decided to add fun fur to his head instead of the pattern’s plain white yarn. I think it gave him a little more character.

Please excuse the picture quality. My digital camera broke so I had to use my cell phone.

Because I’m a new knitter I could use some improvement in the seaming and finishing.

I’m so glad to be done with him. I cant wait to suprise my kiddo with it tomorrow.

Thanks for letting me share!

GREAT JOB! I’m going to get that pattern and try it myself!!! My DS and a niece both love sock monkeys, so I can see myself having to make 2 of them. Awesome!

Wow, thanks everyone!

Those of you trying the pattern out can rest assured that if I could do it anyone could. It’s a really easy pattern.

I just gave it to my son. The look on his face was priceless. He was so excited.

I used to think knitting was something really uncool but now that I’m getting into it I can see how awesome it really is. I guess socks is next.

Holy knit-creation, Batgirl, it’s a supermonkey!

He is fantastic . Super Monkey to the rescue lol . I love the cape and the hair . Well done

Ah, Super hero cape; great touch. The hair makes him real looking. Too cute! How new are you? I would like to make one, but not sure if I am up for it. I’ll have to look at the pattern. Thanks for posting him.

Thanks puddinpop.

I’m pretty new. A couple years ago I bought a teach-myself-to-knit kit and made a scarf. Then I put down my needles and forgot all about knitting up until this month. I started on an afghan in another teach-myself-to-knit book and quickly got bored with it. It’s currently about 20% complete. Then I did a section of an oddball preemie blanket and then this sock monkey. So technically just one complete project before this.

You should give it a try. It’s all knit flat and then you seam up the sides. If you know how to knit in the round (I dont) you can do it that way. A couple simple decreases and increases (I watched the videos here before attempting them) and simple seams to attach the limbs, muzzle and ears. I’ve never made anything (cant even sew) except for cross stitch before this so if I can do it anyone can.

He’s super cute and I really love the cape and hair that you added.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! It is so adorable. I am currently knitting a dinosaur for my oldest son and it will be my first toy. I even got a knit toy book but the monkey in it was no where near as adorable as yours. great job.

Moxiemade, how cute is that!? The hair and cape are such a nice touch, unique too. You did a great job  Pretty darn good for being new at this.

My DD loves monkeys … guess it is high time I start her’s up (I got the same pattern). What yarn did you use?

:inlove: too cute and I love how you used the fun fur!
