Must I wind this yarn into a ball?

I purchased 10 skeins of Valley Yarns Berkshire Bulky - I really do NOT want to wind 10 skeins into balls. Do I have to with this kind of skein? I have a photo, if that helps…

Thanks!

Claudia

Not with that type - you should find the end in the middle of the ball and use that to knit with. You can use the end from the outside too though.
It’s the twisted hanks/skeins you generally need to make into a ball before knitting.

I was hoping that would be the answer-

Thank you!

No problem!

I used to work at a yarn factory and because of the way it is processed, the yarn is twisted in one direction and then wound from the inside of the skein to the outside. If you are going to wind them into balls, be sure to wind them all from the yarn tail found either from the inside or from the outside of the skein. If you wind one from the outside and the next from the inside it will show on your work when you change to the second ball of yarn.
I always wind my yarn into balls before I start to crochet. This is a personal preference and I do it because I usually find a tangled mess before I finish my project. I just find it easier than trying to untangle the yarn with my work attached to the end of the yarn.
