Move stitches to scrap yarn

OK so heres my dilema, This pattern is knit in the round but I decided to do it flat instead. So here is where I am not sure what to do next…
place all but 18(20) st on a piece of waste
yarn.
petal 1 - worked flat (back and forth).
work the following 2 rows until petal is 2½"
(2¾", 3", 3¼") above hat band:

ok I was wondering since I am already working in flat do I have to move to a piece of scrap yarn and if I do then how do you put stitches onto a piece of scrap…( I would put question marks but comp is on the fritz!)

here is the rest of the pattern if that helps

thanks for helping the noob!

:noway: I’m not sure of the answer, but why would you do it flat so you’d have to seam?

I think you still need to move the other stitches to a holder (scrap yarn) so that you can work back and forth just on those 18 (20) stitches. To put stitches on a scrap of yarn use a piece of yarn that is plenty long and thread it through a tapestry needle then run the stitches onto the yarn by running the needle through the stitches and transfering them to the yarn you are “sewing” with.

ohhhh a tapestry needle…duh…LOL! So I guess you know it is a hat for the nicu, well I am doing it flat because if doctors need to do work with their heads the hats have to come off. But if they already have iv lines in then you can`t get the hat on without stopping the iv doing it etc… So thats the long reason I am doing it flat…no way i would voluntarily seem!! yuck!

I don’t understand… if you seam it up, it’s the same as seamless in the finished item. So why couldn’t you just knit it in the round? The hat comes off the same way…

Ohhh…I will securing it around with a button or something…easy on easy off!!
Also as a minor second reason I don`t have 10.5 in rounds and I have had a bad experience with magic loop…

how do I no the right side from the wrong sideÉ my mom taught me right from wrong but not this way!! hehe!( sry early morning late nights make me silly!)

If it’s all ribbing, you decide which you want to show as the RS, or it doesn’t matter. If there’s stockinette, the knit side is the RS.

Thanks!!
