Hello! I’m going to knit the Veer sweater by eri. This is a top down, in the round, boat neckline sweater (same number of stitches front and back) with raglan increases. There is no short row neck shaping.
This gives a harsh neckline for my broad shoulders and I want to make it more of a crew neck. I planned to cast on back and sleeve allowance, knit flat with the raglan increases whilst increasing at the neck edge until its ready to join in the round.
However I’m confused about the impact this will have regarding stitch counts. My understanding is that I must distribute more stitches to the front for this shaping, but when joined in the round. I’ll still have more front stitches. Its a very oversized sweater and I’d like the bottom to look like the pattern!
Should I try to take extra stitches out, or to redistribute to even number on front and back when I’m dividing body and sleeves?
I hope this is clear!! Thanks
I saw a tutorial on this recently but of course, I can’t locate it now. It started out at the neck, knitting sleeves and back, adding short rows and gradually increasing at the front neck. The recommendation was to then cast on sts at the center front so that the front sts equaled the back.
It’s possible that Ann Budd’s book may help. I’ve seen it in my local library.
Thanks! I’ll give that a look! I found a tutorial that said the final stitch count should be higher at the front, which kind of makes sense as the neckline needs to extend further to accommodate the dip, but it’s not clear to me what happens when they join in the round! The tutorial didn’t mention that aspect!! ![]()
