Measurements

Hello everyone,

I’m wondering if anyone can help me. I’m looking at measurements for a cardigan. I’ve been looking at a few different ones. Some say to fit chest and actual chest size - these are different. Do I go by the actual chest size?

Thank you.

These numbers are often confusing. To fit chest or to fit bust means your bust size. Actual chest or actual size at bust means the measurement of the finished sweater or knit project.

Thank you. So do I chose the size based on the actual chest size or the finished object size?

It depends on how much ease or extra room you would like in the finished garment. If you would like a tighter fit than the designer had in mind, choose a smaller finished measurement. If you would like a looser fit, then choose a larger finished size.
Sometimes it helps to take a sweater that you like the fit of and measure that across the bust. Use that finished bust measurement as a guide in choosing which size to make.
