Mattress stitch for stuffed toy/ribbing

I have sent a picture of the dragon animal i am trying to make up by knitting. My questions are relating to the image i sent to you about how to make the animal up:

  1. do you believe they have been using mattress stitches to join all peices together including the arms and legs and body? Could anyone send a link on how to do the mattress stitch when making up stuffed animal toy?
  2. if it is the matress stitch i require to make up the animal how would i undo a mistake with the mattress stitch since i am not experienced in mattress stitches… if there was a mistake to be made?
  3. it says in the image to make up " With the wing seam facing down, pinch the centre and add a couple of stitches in sunny yellow wool through both layers to add a rib" my question about this is how do you add a rib in a couple of stitches please? I have never done a rib before what type of rib do i use… how do i undo the rib incase i made a mistake during my first attempt? Thanks any help would be appreciated.

You don’t have to use mattress stitch especially when it comes to attaching the arms, legs, etc. You can pick up a stitch from the body then one from the leg for example and continue around tightening as you go.
If you use mattress stitch for the long seams, here’s a video that may help with unpicking it.

I usually free up the strand with the tapestry needle and gently pull the seamed edges apart from one end, pulling out the seaming thread for a stitch or two, then pulling the edges apart again. It may help to make 2 practice swatches to try out mattress stitch.
The rib is made by folding the wing over and just sewing for one or two sts at the fold. The sts will only be 1/8 to 1/4 inch in from the fold and only extend about 1/2 inch in length.

Hi thanks for your help your response looks helpful and great. Could you please take a look at the image where it discusses the make up of the animal… from looking at this image can you clarify weather or not it would be 1x1 rib that i would be using please for a couple of stitches? Is this how to accurately do a 1x1 rib if you believe its a 1x1 rib i would be using from looking at the video link below: https://youtu.be/xziyxA4WKvo

Where does the photo of the dragon use 1x1 rib (k1, p1 rib)?

It doesn’t say which rib to use when making up the dragon weather it is x2 rib or x1. It just says in the image i sent you before “with wing seam facing down, pinch centre and add a couple of stitches in sunny yellow through both layers to add a rib”

OK, ribbing is different from a rib. This isn’t ribbing (1x1 or 2x2). The pattern is asking you to fold and pinch a tiny bit of the knit fabric to make a rib like the struts on an umbrella. This isn’t a knit stitch but a sewing stitch.
