For some reason, I have an overwhelming desire to knit a mary poppins scarf! All I can find are crochet patterns… Any knitting ideas?
It looks like lace pattern on large needles may be helpful
I LOVE Mary Poppins Lonnie gave me the special edition dvd last year. Mary is timeless
My youngest daughter loved Mary Poppins so much that she is working her way thru college as a nanny
Oh, I forgot, I have a pattern from Interweave Knits that has a satchel reminscent of Mary Poppins that I must make…bc it reminds me of MP
I found this pattern that may work if u use bigger needles
ooo the scarf looks complicatied but the stitch pattern looks pretty easy. I can just add a long stringy fringe.
Now… to find yarn!
Thanks becca!
Mary Poppins is one of my all time favorite movies (Though i nearly always fast forward through the animated part!)
Becka that is the ONLY IK magazine i have ever bought (most of the patterns are for stuff i have no interest in knitting!) because of that very satchel. I really should get to making it. though i must admit, i was thinking of doing it in stripes or something instead of the flowers…and those red straps have GOT to go unless they work with the stripes!
U r welcome, Hilde
LOL, I know what u mean about those straps, bren I just loved the shape of the satchel bc it says…MARY POPPINS to me, it’s too cute…and on my very long “to do” list
I was thinking lots of yarn overs with big needles would work.
If you scroll down the shopping bag has a similar stitch pattern.

I made one of these using a pattern from the very first issue of creative knitting… I think it was called the sophisticated scarf or something like that… I’m not home right now, so I don’t have the pattern to reference, but I believe it was simply yo, k2tog for the bulk of the pattern, and yes, on big needles…
cool thanks everyone! I bought my yarn today at chix with sticks with KK!
…I saw some scarves like that on the straw.com free knitting pattern page.

Here is a pattern that looks exactly like it. You just need to add fringe.
