Make5

Help help help help help! I am knitting a pattern that calls for a m5, k1 across the second row. The third row is purl. Do i work the M5 as one stitch? If so, I am having a terrible time getting it onto the needle…so tight! What as I doing wrong?

Thanks so much. This site is so professional and friendly.

Please tell us what pattern you are making and post a link to it if possible. Makes it easier to help.

The pattern should have an explanation of how to do a m5 - probably something like a k p k p k or k yo k yo k all into one stitch. Then it depends on the rest of the row, if there’s decs in it then you work the 5 sts separately on the next row. But a look at the pattern or just those 2 rows would make it easier to see if that’s what you do, otherwise we’re just kind of guessing.

I am learning stitches out 50 Fabulous Knit Stitches by Rita Weiss. The stitch I am learning is the Gooseberry. The first three lines are: Row 1 Knit, Row 2 K2, *M5, K1; rep from * to last st, K1 and Row 3 is K1, purl to last st. K1. The 5 stitches I made are so tight I can hardly get them off the needle. I am working them as one stitch when I purl. Is that correct?

Thanks so much.

re: Gooseberry…the M5 is (p1, K1) twice, P1 in same st: 5sts. worked in one st.

You can do k1 yo k1 yo k1 in the same st instead; it looks just the same and the sts won’t be quite so tight. I think you’re supposed to work each st separately on row 3. I found another gooseberry st where you decrease them on row 4.
