I recently have picked up in interest in knitting, and I’ve been trying to make my stitches/rows even. After casting on, the next row is usually pretty tight no matter how loose I hold it, and it makes it difficult to start on the second row. However, when I knit it loosely, the rows end up too loose. How can I change this?
When I cast on I use a bigger needle than whats called for in the pattern, and knit with the on that is called for in the pattern this should solve your cast on problems.
And lots of practice. You have to knit lots of rows before you really get the feel for it. You’ll get there, don’t give up.

Practice, practice, practice. The tension evens out as you become more comfortable.
