Magnetic pattern holder

I am 73 years old and have trouble reading patterns and charts, So I went to Joann Fabrics and bought 2- 12x18 inch LoRan metal pattern holders. Then I went on Ebay and bought a roll of white magnetic sign. The kind you use to put signs on your car door. I cut it into 4 x18 strips and enlarge the charts put them on the pattern holder and then position the magnetic strips to only show the row I am on. If the chart needs to be repeated I put little marks at the end of each row so I will know where I am… I put the 2 pattern holders back to back and then use both sides when I am working on 2 different shawls. works wonderfully…

What a great idea!! Glad to hear you found a way to keep knitting!!

What a great idea!

Great tip. Thanks very much!

That’s great!! Thanks and welcome to Knitting Help!

There used to be a kit similar to this for counted cross stitch. But I’ve had trouble finding it. Thanks for the idea to make myself one!

I had no idea such a thing existed – and I’ve been looking for a magnet type board to use with an easel, but apparently in the wrong places. Now I want one too! Thanks!

I just looked on JoAnn Fabric’s online store and they don’t carry the LoRan metal boards, however I did find them on Ebay. Just put in the search window “LoRan magnetic board” and the 6X10 and the 12X18 inch comes up…they are quite a bit cheaper, too.

I did the same sort of thing, using dollar store cookie sheets and the same magnetic strips, and then got one of those plastic magnifying pages, it works well for me.

That’s a great idea, keep on knitting
