Is there a difference between M1 & M1L?
sweater pattern calls for both but one row calls for just M1. Can I make any extra stitch? YouTube describes M1 same as M1L.

Welcome to the forum!
What is the name of your pattern and designer?
M1 (make one) is a general term for a type of increase. M1L (make one left) and M1R (make one right) are kinds of make ones. Your pattern may be giving you a choice for M1 whereas M1L is telling you to specifically work the make one left.
A list of terms for the pattern may give more of an explanation.
Hello.Book is seamless knit sweaters by Marie Greene, founder of Olive knits.
Based on YouTube, I used M1L, but was thinking maybe I could increase it another way. If M1 in a pattern is maybe saying, increase anyway you want, but every you tube I saw called M1 the same as ML1⦠Guess Iāll see how it turns out:)
Thank you for the response. Iām excited to have this new knitting resource,
You can substitute for the M1L if youād like. Just remember that it occurs between sts so that if you substitute say a kfb, youāll have to account for the knit stitch that is used to make the increase when you count sts.
Maybe this book:
Weāre happy to have you join us!
What are the increases doing? Simply increasing stitch count or perhaps raglan or other shaping? Personally I prefer lifted/raised increases when theyāll work. They can be worked where the M1 is indicated
Yes. That is the book. Do you have it? Iām doing Sandscape skipped-stitch pullover (pg 129). my next stuck point is NECKLINE JOIN (pg 134).
I end with everything on right needle⦠so I switch that to left hand and move stitches over? Or right where I am at, just slide over to left needle, that currently has no stitches?
What side faces out? I got here before and had it backward so had knit stitches on inside.
I donāt know what most of this meansā¦raglanā¦raised stitches:) But thank you so much for the reply! I did M1L and will see how it looks. I donāt think it comes up again in this pattern.

Very nice looking although easier to see the pattern sts in the projects.
Youāre going to join the sts to knit in the round. The sts at the end of row will be joined to the sts before the mD. Slide the sts around (youāre working on the circular needle?) so that the sts are now at the tip of the left hand needle, ready to join those before mD. The right side or public side will be facing out so the knit sts are on the outside.
Follow the directions about knitting this next joining round in place of the WS row previously worked. Be sure the sts line up without a twist and do not work any increases.
I checked into this book since I agree seaming not fun. Also intriguing about completing in 2 wks. (which I highly doubt at least for me). So I ordered from Amazon (43% off) and there are some cute sweaters included. So thanks. Will put on my āto doā list.
Thanks so much!
Not two weeks for me either!
Unfortunately the sweater I picked out to start, Blue Heron, the yarn recommended is discontinued. Usually what I experience it seems but yarnsub.com has some options. Iām leaning towards knitpicks Ewe&Billy. Comments talk about how soft with wonderful drape. So Iām āstewingā on this option. Anyone with any thoughts. Hard to order online, unable to feel the yarn, and can be pricey & hope for best but since lys closed only big box options in town.

Ewe & Billy gets generally good reviews although thereās some questions about cable definition with this soft yarn and also retention of blocked dimensions. Depending on your pattern (btw, what is your pattern and designer?) this may work for you.
You could order a hank in your favorite color and try it out rather than a whole sweater quantity of the yarn. I donāt see a color card offered but you could ask. It is difficult to buy online but when so many local shops are closing it becomes necessary.
Itās blue heron drop stitch tee out of seamless knit sweater in 2 weeks by Marie Greene book. The yarn is kind of pricey when you get the amount needed but google says they usually have a sale in November . So maybe I can luck out and get some savings. The yarn recommended was Fibre co Acadia. It had merino, alpaca, silk 60-20-20. The ewe & billy is merino, mohair 75-25.

Lovely! Those yarns sound gorgeous. Worth looking for the sale, too.
Have you looked at some of the yarns used by the project knitters on Ravelry? There are some interesting choices there.
Thanks for that suggestion. I could look at finished sweaters and see how they draped. So I feel like I have more options. I havenāt ruled out my first choice especially if I can get it on sale or have a coupon. But Iām in no rush since Iām in the middle of a project & have another waiting in the wings, yarn already purchased.
I am here now and still very confused. I think I can work through the diagram except Iām questioning how public side can be facing out and I will get the knit stitches right. I know I am making it even more confusingā¦
Youāve been knitting a neckline back and forth up to the point of the neckline join. It may help to label your markers just til you get past the join. This photo shows the knitting up to the join. The neckline is curled so the WS is showing but the RS knits are actually facing the knitter. You can see the labelled markers A and D.

See if that helps. Youāre correct that you want the knit sts to the outside so that you can continue with knits.
Thank you! I think I have it and the public side is on outside of loop. I am so appreciative of your help!
Great news! Give it a try and let us know how it goes. Very good looking sweater!
