My start marker fell off on the scarf I am knitting in the round. I have knitted about 4 inches. How do I know where to replace it back on the needle?
Clem
If it is just plain stockinette try to find the cast on tail and from it figure out what was the first stitch. Then follow the column up and place the marker.
If you have a more advanced pattern, try to read the pattern as a “map” to find the place for the marker.
Can you locate the side of the yarn where the cast on tail is, then post a close up picture of the work. We should be able to trace it up to the current round.
thank you
When knitting in the round the stitches and needle tips line up evenly all the way around. When you knit the first stitch of the next round that stitch and the right needle (assuming knitting is right handed) will be higher than the left needle. I use this to figure out exactly where the bor is. If you’re working stockinette it may not matter all that much. I began binding off a pair of socks in the middle of the rounds (I was working two at a time, magic loop) and it was no big deal. I was in no mood to tink and redo and said to heck with it. It didn’t show at all.
