Hello, all-looking for knitters in the North Georgia (Atlanta) area.
bump…
I don’t live in Atlanta, but I do travel up there. Where do you like to go? I’ve been to Knitch shortly after it opened. It was a very nice store but hard to find a place to park.
I’m in Augusta, but that doesn’t really help does it?
I’m in Atlanta! I go to Nease’s (very nice people, not the greatest selection) and Needle Nook (better selection, but not my vibe as much). I keep meaning to go to Knitch, and recently met a woman who teaches there who was really nice.
I just wish I could find a knitting group who met in my part of town sometime after my kids go to bed. The groups that meet after 7:30 or so all seem too far away…
Hey Ladies–I live in Stockbridge which is about 20-25 miles south of Atlanta and I have a SNB that meets in Morrow on Mt. Zion Rd. at the Caribou Coffee on Monday nights from about 6:30 until we get ready to leave or they kick us out. Some don’t trickle in until closer to 7:00ish…it’s small but we make do. We used to meet in McDonough at a large coffee shop but some of us had difficulties w/ the owner being rude.
I don’t know if any of you are close enough to join us but we’d love to have you if so. My favorite LYS, btw, by far is Knitch. I used to go to why knot knit but don’t care for a couple of their policies, etc. I’ve been to Needlenook–they’re helpful and friendly enough–I’m just not in the area too much. I’ve been to Strings and Strands and it was okay (Sandy Springs area) and I’ve been to Nease’s once but it’s been a while ago.
If any of you are in the area and interested in coming to our SNB–we’d love to have you–PM me and let me know your coming. Oh–we also have a yahoo group that we post on: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/southsideSNB
If you are near or travel to Marietta try The Purly Gates right near the Marietta Square. It is located in Historic Marietta Square! 1.5 miles west of the Big Chicken across from Courthouse Building C. 170 Roswell Street, Marietta, GA 30060. Phone number is: (770) 419-4424. Dana and Ginger, the owners are the nicest people and my mentors for my store. They stay open late on Thursdays for Knit Night. I miss that group now that I have my own Knit Night in Jacksonville, AL that night. The Purly Gates is stocked to the gills :envy: and have lots of classes all through the week. www.thepurlygates.com is their website.
Hi all GA knitters! I’m in Stone Mountain. I have a crazy schedule that requires a lot of travel but thought I would chime in. I’m still very new to knitting - just doing my first (easy) sweater now so mainly I drive out to the Michael’s in Snellville for supplies but I am going to put the places you have mentioned in my memory and try to get around to them.
Kitty
I’m from GA and I miss it terribly! So hello to all the Georgian knitters out there! :waving:
I’m over here in Douglasville/Dallas/Hiram area and would love to find a group or class that’s a bit closer to home. Anyone know of any yarn shops around these parts? I have some of the ones in Marietta/Acworth/Kennesaw on my list when I want to take a Saturday drive but it would be nice to have a local shop.
Anyways, howdy!
I’m over here in Douglasville/Dallas/Hiram area and would love to find a group or class that’s a bit closer to home. Anyone know of any yarn shops around these parts?
My kids (preschool) both go to school near McEachern HS, so it’s always a toss up if I run errands in Hiram or the Town Center area. The Hiram Michael’s actually has a decent selection of basic yarns and you might want to check on classes there.
When you do decide to get out for a Saturday drive, I second the recommendation for Purly Gates on the Marietta Square. They are absolutely the nicest! Check their calendar, but now they are opening for one Sunday a month and also Thursday evening for knit nights. Hardly a snobby yarn store.
I’d love a morning knitting group (when my kids are in school) so I’m not cutting into family time with the knit nights. I’m already gone on Wednesday night for a graduate class I’m taking so I hate to be away two nights in a row.
Well nice to meet ya neighbor! Maybe we should start a snb of 2? I work from home so I’m rather flexible on when I can go to a class or snb. Just most get togethers I’ve seen are doing them on Thursday night and there’s NO WAY I’m giving up my Greys’ LOL
Maybe the morning of Tuesday, February 13th? Maybe at the Hiram Starbucks in front of Michael’s?
Anyone else care to join us?
Hey ya’ll! I live in Alpharetta and I am a brand new knitter. I am taking a knitting class with a friend at our LYS here in Alpharetta. I would love to chat with some other knitters here in Atlanta.
Susie
Hey projectgal…I’ll be happy to meetup on the 13th…just need a time, again I’m flexible.
Anyone else wanna come?
And welcome Susie! I’m a new knitter too and I’m just a bustin’ to yak with other knitters. I finished my test set of socks and just bought some yummy sock yarn today. I also raided the Hobby Lobby in Carrollton (closest to my house) for a bunch of dpns at 50% off :cheering: If you have a Hobby Lobby near ya you may want to stop by this week, all their knitting goodies are on sale. Man I wish this was a pay week :wall:
Sherrie
Hey Sherri!! I am really wanting to chat with some knitters too. But, when I say beginner, I mean SUPER beginner. I just learned the purl stitch this week. I feel so completely inadequate when I look at all these beautiful things folks here have knitted. That is so cool that you have already knitted socks!! Wow!
What about meeting at 9:30? That will give me enough time to drop off the kiddos.
And Susie, just remember beginning knitting is how most of us found this site. I just learned to knit last January, and watching Amy’s videos (over and over again) was how I learned. We all started with the same two stitches! Just give it some time, you’ll be addicted with the rest of us!
Hey Ga. knitters. I’m new here. I was on the HGTV message boards and was told about KnittingHelp.com I fell in love instantly… I am new to knitting. Actually I haven’t knitted anything yet so I am getting excited about starting. There is a place here in Woodstock that is called TheWholeNineYarns…I think that’s how it is spelled. They have a knit night but I haven’t been yet. They just recently started a knit mornings on Tuesday’s that I’d like to try one day.
I am a mother of 4 and a homemaker. I like to quilt and dabble in all other crafts.
Anyway, I just wanted to say Hello and see if there is anyone close by.

Hey Jenny!! I am a brand new knitter too. I live in Alpharetta which isn’t too far from Woodstock. My LYS is Only Ewe and Cotton Too. I am a SAHM too, so if you want to chat, PM me and I’ll give you my email. Look forward to hearing from you.
Susie
Hello ladies. I just found this board and was thrilled to see that there are knitters in my area!
I’m another “westside” knitter located in the Hiram/Douglasville/Powder Springs area.
Sorry, but I have to change plans. I was placed with a tough decision today: knitting and coffee or my son’s opthamologist’s appointment. I did the grown up thing and scheduled the opthamologist, but it was tough!
So, what about the 27th at 9:30?
