Looking for an easy "brim" hat pattern

I’m wanting to make a hat (this will be my first). The thing is, I don’t look all that great in beanies/skul caps or blucky winter hats—besides, I live in Southern California, so I won’t need a thick hat anyways!
:hot:

Anyways, I’ve been looking around Knitting Pattern Central, Lion Brand Yarn, Knit Picks, Bernat, and a few other pattern sites, looking for hats to make. I found a few, but I’m wondering if any of you have made a similar type hat.

Thanks!

Different hats I’m looking at making:

And this is more of the beanie type, but doesn’t seem as snug fitting:

The first two hats on your list are felted. Do you want a felted hat or just knit. Most knit hats won’t stay in that shape very well.

I guess a felted hat. I’ve never felted yet, but it doesn’t seem too difficult from what I’ve read.

Or, if you can think of another cute pattern. You know the weather! :teehee:

I’m brand new, and haven’t made a hat yet. But I did come across a hat pattern that I think might work for you. I bought the pattern to make it for my little boy, but it can be made into an adult size as well.

It’s near the bottom of the page if you just scroll down. I think if you make it with cotton it will be cool in the summer.

Felting is easy, but I’m not sure about using laundromat washers so you’ll have to ask for help with that if you use them.

I’m not much of a hat person… I hate hat hair. :teehee: I did make a regular knit folded brim hat that I wore when I went to Canada, but otherwise they aren’t for me. Here’s a few I found though.

That’s really cute! A bucket hat, that’s exactly what type of hat I was thinking, I just couldn’t come up with the name. :wall:

Thanks so much, and welcome!

Although my apartment has the laundromat type washers, my boyfriend already knows I’m headed to his apartment to use his washing machine! :teehee: So, that shouldn’t be an issue. If neither one of us had our own, then it would!

Thanks for the ideas Jan!

I saw a similar pattern in the Spring 07 issue of knit.1 magazine (the one with the yoga sweater on the front).

i just started this hat pattern from knitty for my little sister. i am using a mercerized cotton yarn and striping in 3 colors. i am just about done woth the top, and its a super easy pattern! it has a brim and no felting required!
