Hi everyone…I’ve been looking for a pattern for a men’s sweater for my husband. I have been knitting for myself and my daughters and he decided he wanted a sweater. He wants a pullover. I am an experienced beginner … maybe advanced beginner, but not much beyond that. I need a sweater that I can make in something other than wool because my husband is a warm person and won’t wear anything tooo warm… If you could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. I have looked around on the internet, but the patterns are either too difficult or a cardigan. I actually would like to make it in burgandy with maybe a semi wide strip across the chest to break up the color… Any help will be appreciated.
Here’s some

Thanks so much those all look good, and they look like something I can tackle…I appreciate your time and effort in passing them along. :woot:
I would recomend looking into Elizabeth Zimmermann’s books. Knitting Without Tears has a few standard patterns for sweaters that are very easy to follow. They’re not patterns in the traditional sense in that they don’t tell you the yarn, gauge, or needle size, but you just choose what you like and use the percentages to develop your own pattern. (this sounds more complicated than it really is.) I made a seemless hybrid cardigan for my husband (as my third sweater) somewhat based on Big Blue which is based on her pattern. I loved the shoulder construction; the fit is spectacular.
You can see the same pattern knit as a pullover by the same person here.
In Knitting Without Tears she also gives patterns for raglan and sadle shoulder sweaters along with good explanations of how and why the patterns work.
Hi,
knittingdaily.com has an online store where they sell some mens patterns
here is the braided pullover, its $5.50
My favorite and its on my queue is the cobblestone pullover also $5.50
if you are on ravelry a bunch of people have done this one and it looks really good on everyone.
There’s an awesome sweater pattern for a man in the Stitch N Bitch Nation book. I’m working on it for my hubby…It’s taken a looong time to do, but, that’s from procrastination, not difficulty :teehee:
The pattern has flames that go up the sleeves, but, those would be easy enough to omit. It also has a stripe going across the chest of the sweater.
I started the sweater with a LOT less knitting knowledge than I now have and I had no difficulties with it at all. All I have left is a sleeve and a half, the collar, and seaming. The whole thing is pretty much stockinette stitch, it’s a really easy sweater.
The below link to the image is NOT my sweater, but, that’s what the sweater looks like.

And, here’s what mine looks like…I’ve gotten a little further since then…lol
http://forum.knittinghelp.com/t/wip-jesses-flames-sweater?t=74938Thanks everyone. Yuyay, that book sounds really interesting… It sounds like a great way to get sweaterst that actually fit. Scout52, both of the patterns look interesting…I think my husband would really like the Cobblestone Pullover. Demonica, your sweater looks amazing…I don’t think I would have given the original pattern a second look. I’m not great a transforming a pattern in my minds eye, but your sweater is definitely one my husband would like.
